The English edition of Nova et Vetera is published quarterly and provides an international forum for theological and philosophical studies from a Thomistic perspective. The journal strives to follow the culturally engaged, ecclesial, broadly Thomistic, and dialogical perspective of the founder of the Swiss Nova et Vetera, Charles Journet. Journet worked at the intersection of theology, philosophy, and biblical studies, and we seek to do the same.

Authors who have published articles in Nova et Vetera include a wide variety of eminent scholars: Robert Barron, Richard Bauckham, Romanus Cessario, OP, Georges Cardinal Cottier, OP, Archbishop J. Augustine Di Noia, OP, Avery Cardinal Dulles, SJ, Francis Cardinal George, OMI, Richard B. Hays, Russell Hittinger, William Kurz, SJ, Bruce Marshall, Francis Martin, Frank Matera, Edward T. Oakes, SJ, Michele Schumacher, Christopher Seitz, Janet Smith, Geoffrey Wainwright, Thomas Weinandy, OFM Cap., and Robert Louis Wilken, among many others.

“Nova et Vetera is an outstanding resource for the renewal of theology in line with the New Evangelization, and unrivalled for the intellectual energy of its contributors and editors. I strongly encourage all Catholic seminaries and colleges to subscribe.”
– Archbishop Charles Chaput, O.F.M., Cap., Archbishop of Philadelphia

“In his encyclicals and addresses, Pope Benedict XVI has called for the integration of Catholic theology, philosophy, and biblical studies. In this task, Nova et Vetera shows the way forward for the twenty-first century.”
– Sean Cardinal O’Malley, O.F.M., Cap., Archbishop of Boston

“Nova et Vetera is, after only a few years, well on the way to becoming the most important and interesting English-language journal in Catholic theology: each issue combines attentive retrieval of the tradition with serious proposals for its development and deepening.”
– Paul Griffiths, Duke Divinity School
